The Knox-Tavoularis family has since inherited the house, and Willa sees signs of Vineland’s decline everywhere. An (actual) old Temperance town whose soil once made it attractive to glassmakers and chicken farmers and the founders of Welch’s Grape Juice, Vineland lost its raison d’être after a line of pesticide manufacturers poisoned the land and fled, along with many of the town’s jobs and a noticeable portion of its white people. The novel, Kingsolver’s eighth, chronicles Willa’s attempt to save her dead aunt’s house, a crumbling Victorian mansion in Vineland, New Jersey. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Under Mergers and Acquisitions (“M&A”), the term takeover refers to the acquisition of one company by another. A takeover becomes hostile when the acquisition of the target company is opposed by its management. In such a situation, instead of backing off, the acquiring company directly approaches the target company’s shareholders for the purpose of acquisition which either takes place through a tender offer or a proxy fight. ![]() There are various defense strategies that can be employed by the target company like buyback, white knight, pacman, et cetera. Recently, in 2019, the Indian IT sector witnessed its first ever hostile takeover where Mindtree Limited (“Mindtree”), was acquired by Larsen and Toubro Limited (“L&T”). In this article, I try to unpack this acquisition and the reasons for the acquisition turning hostile. Furthermore, I also explain in detail the concept of hostile takeovers, its strategies, and defenses. ![]() ![]() ![]() Plenty of laughs – though fairly predictable… Blu-Ray $19.95 Days of Heaven (1979) The mid–western wheat–fields provide a magnificent backdrop for this poignant tale of two disparate bachelors who vie for the same woman.… Blu-Ray $34.95 Black Sunday (1977) A suspenseful, violent terrorist thriller based on Thomas Harris' fictional novel about the pro–Palestinian "Black September" group who… Blu-Ray $34.95 Bad News Bears (1976) Delightfully cynical baseball comedy starring Walter Matthau as an alcoholic ex–baseball pitcher who becomes a coach for a youth baseball team… Blu-Ray $34.95 Gambler, The (1974) A typically gritty 70s crime drama, adapted from a story by Dostoevsky, that boasts a fine performance by James Caan as a well–respected… Blu-Ray $34.95 Space 1999 (TV Series) (1974- 1978) A live–action creation from puppet–master Gerry Anderson about a crew of scientists stationed on "Moonbase Alpha". ![]() Blu-Ray $19.95 Stir Crazy (1980) The first and best of the Pryor/Wilder comedies, about a pair of clumsy crooks who land in jail. At every turn of a page, it seems Percy was going to fail, but with new surprises, he seems to get out of every scenario unharmed. The characters are built up well and relatable, specifically Percy, who is fun to follow as he navigates his new life as a demigod. The concept of demigods living among us and attending a secret camp is both exciting and imaginative. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was how it brought Greek mythology into the modern world. The theme of identity is with Percy Jackson finding out who he really is. The plot is fast and action-packed, with many twists and turns that keeps the reader on their toes. The book follows the point of view of Percy Jackson, a demigod who discovers his true identity and takes on a quest to retrieve Zeus' stolen lightning bolt. I found the book to be an exciting and engaging read. This book is the most action-packed book I have ever read. ![]() ![]() ![]() His works are related to the period from 14 to 70 CE and are mainly dedicated to Roman legions of the 1st century CE partaking in wars, campaigns and battles of that times. The author tried to be objective, writing without any bias and relying on credible sources. He was the first of his house to become so high official in the state (homo novus).Īs a historian, he probably had an unlimited access to the state archives, thanks to which, his books teem with facts and excellent chronology. In 97 CE, he became a proconsul, and in 112 became a ruler of the province of Asia. In 88 CE, he became a praetor and his career speeded up. In the first years of Domitian rule, he was honored a position of tribune of the people, or, as other sources suggest, became an aedile. In 77 CE, he married a daughter of a consul Agricola, who conquered Britain and became its intendant. Then he became a questor, which allowed him to sit in the Senate. ![]() In 75 CE, he started his public activity as a legal defence. He was learning rhetoric from Quintilianus. The greater caution for families with younger children (say 13 and under depending on the individual) is the depiction of the child in the house, who is consistently rude to her authorities and manipulative towards the other characters in disturbing ways. I don't know that it would hold much rewatch value considering that it's not the sort of movie where the clues all come together at the end giving you an "aha!" moment - once the murderer is revealed, it seems painfully obvious. The movie is slow and not especially clever in dialogue, but I found the mystery to be compelling enough. Sexual activity is discussed (albeit not as salaciously as "Ordeal by Innocence") and alluded to (bare shoulders, kissing and toppling over), but would be considered a light PG-13. No violence is shown other than a woman who shoots at moles. "Crooked House" contains almost no profanity, no sex or nudity, and is bloodless despite it being about a murder. ![]() ![]() ![]() Turning Pro: Tap Your Inner Power and Create Your Life’s Work.Do the Work: Overcome Resistance and Get Out of Your Own Way and. ![]()

Using the three basic laws of epidemics, Gladwell outlines a simple three-point plan to get your product to its own tipping point. This triggered a chain reaction that cascaded though the US, increasing sales 70-fold and creating a word of mouth epidemic. For example, Hush Puppies ‘tipped’ in 1993, when a few fashion-forward hipsters from Soho New York started wearing the languishing brand again. Using the science of epidemics, Gladwell shows how small actions at the right time, in the right place, and with the right people can create a ‘tipping point’ for a product – the moment when a domino effect is triggered and an epidemic of demand sweeps through a population like a virulent virus. The Tipping Point is a book about how hits happen. But what does Malcolm Gladwell’s influential bestseller actually advocate, and how can it be applied to real world marketing? The Tipping Point has gained something of a cult status in marketing – as the black book of 21st Century Marketing. The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference. ![]() |
